A day without laughter is a day wasted… but that was not today…
I can’t get this out of my head. Here is how our Valentine’s Day began… We were up very early for a 6:45 PET scan at the Huntsman. Mark assured me that it was a only a 20 minute test so I decided to try to rest my eyes for a moment and stayed in the car. After awhile I checked my phone – we had forgotten about the hour required in which he lay quietly in a dark room while the contrast spreads throughout his body. So I wandered up to radiology to sit in the waiting room.
While there a man near me began to laugh out loud. He was using ear buds and watching something very funny because he just kept on laughing. If I had laughed out loud in a quiet public space I would have been looking around to see if anyone had noticed. He was too busy laughing. I was smiling pretty big and wanted to laugh, but not by myself. I looked around to try to catch someone’s eye so that we could share a smile, but there was no response. Maybe it was the early hour, but not one other person had any sort of reaction.
Then it happened again. He was laughing. I was smiling and searching for a friendly face, and I found none. I know that it is a cancer hospital – but hasn’t anyone heard that laughter is the best medicine? Can we even crack a smile?? I very much enjoyed the man’s amusement, but for myself I laughed alone and silently. I guess that is why I can’t get it off my mind, laughter should be shared. I texted my sister about what was going on and she sent me this video.
I brought it up to Mark more than once on the drive home. Why aren’t people more friendly??
That’s all I have to say about that – but we were the recipients of some anonymous friendship last night. We dropped by our soon-to-be-remodeled home and found that we had once again received a heart attack. The sparkles in the lilac bush first caught our eye. So fun!
Updates – we were pleased to find out that the tumor growing in the thyroid is the same as Mark’s other tumors. This is good news because if it should respond to the current treatment. Regarding the current treatment – the test today should let us know whether or not is is working. I don’t know if we will hear before next week when we report back for our hospital stay, but please pray that we see some shrinkage in those tumors… and hello! please! no new tumors!!!
